Dune: Third part is even more important to the landmark sci-fi saga than the upcoming one Dune: Second part. The first release date for the long-awaited action succeeds Klit 2 is October 20, 2023. As an adaptation of the second half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 social sci-fi masterpiece, Dune 2 concludes the story of Paul Atreides’ rise to become emperor of the known universe.

It’s always a bit of a gamble for directors to rely on hypothetical sequels to bring home the effect of an original film, but given huge success Dune thanks to Villeneuve’s writing, big names like Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa and Zendaya, and the inevitable attraction of a new epic franchise, it seems that Klit 2 and even Klit 3 has a good chance of reaching the big screen and doing quite well. This will be good news for eager audiences who want to see Dune‘s story through, but it also becomes essential for the message of the books, and thus the films, to get through. In this connection Klit 3 will be even more important than Klit 2.

Why Dune 3 is more important than Dune 2

Paul Dune Vision Blue Eyes

Dune: Messiah This is where the aftermath of the actions of Emperor Paul Atreides is truly explored. While Klit 2 makes the original film much better, Klit 3 will reveal that Paul’s vision of a galactic holy war has come true. In the books, this is the point where Paul becomes disillusioned with power. Despite having attained perfect ignorance, Paul is powerless to stop Fremen from killing billions in his name. Frank Herbert wrote Dune in 1965, only several decades after World War II. And in the author’s own words, Dune is meant as a warning against following charismatic leaders and messianic figures. Even the most well-meaning, capable, and selfless messiahs can easily make decisions that lead to death and destruction, which is the main point of Dune saga. And this point is first really established in Herbert’s second book, Dune: Messiahwhich Villeneuve will adapt to Klit 3 – if it turns green.

Though Klit 2 is crucial to show Paul’s resurrection, Klit 3 can not only end this journey but also reveal its true meaning. Yes, if Villeneuve stays true to it Dune: Messiah, the third film will resolve all the debates and critiques of the first film played for the classic white savior tale. It will also be interesting to see how Villeneuve adjusts to the trials of Emperor Paul Atreide, the awakening and eventually death. To Dune star Timothée Chalamet, this point in Dune the saga could be a crucial moment in his acting career.

Villeneuves Dune was always meant to be a trilogy. Given the success of the first Dune film and the building’s expectation of the sequel, Villeneuve’s chances to make Klit 3 the film seems positive. For now, Dune 2 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on October 20, 2023.
