Why Bridgerton Season 2 is shockingly different for Daphne fans

Bridgerton season 2 pays homage to Daphne and Simon’s romance and focuses on Anthony. The stars of the show feel that the story of the happy couple is far from over.

Bridgerton season 2 will be shockingly different for Daphne fans. The steamy Netflix period drama is an adaptation of the popular romantic novels written by Julia Quinn, which explores life among the aristocracy of London from the Regency era. Chris Van Dusen created the show and Shonda Rhimes acted as executive producer. Bridgerton has drawn comparisons to Jane Austen’s works thanks to her strong-willed and independent female characters. Bridgerton is told Gossip Girl style of the mysterious Mrs. Whistledown (pronounced by Julie Andrews)whose scandal sheets strike fear in the hearts of members of the upper echelons, who have secrets which they would rather not be revealed.

Bridgerton season 1 is based on Quinn’s first novel, The Duke and I, which takes place in 1813 at the height of London’s social season, when a number of young women make their official social debut. They all have a common goal: get a husband or suffer the humiliation of potential spin-offs. Viewers are introduced to Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), who strives to make a love match, but hits a few setbacks thanks to her older brother’s intervention (Anthony hates all Daphne’s suitors). Daphne’s fortune changes for the better as she meets Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), and their tumultuous love story is Bridgerton‘s season 1 main story. They have to overcome some major obstacles, but Daphne and Simon are ready to live happily ever after at the end of the season.

The show’s second season continues, and fans are already wondering what to expect from it Bridgerton season 2. Quinn’s Bridgerton The series consists of eight novels, each of which focuses on the love life of one of Bridgerton’s siblings: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth. Bridgerton season 2 promises to focus on Daphne’s older brother Anthony as he embarks on what he sees as an obligatory quest to find a suitable bride (chronicled in Quinn’s second book, Viscount who loved me). Daphne’s story is really over, which will no doubt disappoint viewers. Anthony will share the spotlight with his bachelor brothers and fan favorites Eloise (whose future love interest was introduced during season 1) and Penelope Featherington, who was revealed as Mrs. Whistledown in the final moments of the season 1 finale. Daphne’s sexual awakening and the tangible chemistry between the Duke and Duchess that made Season 1 so addictive seem to be replaced by the banality of marital bliss.

Why Anthony is the main character in Bridgerton Season 2 (and not Daphne)

The main reason that Anthony is in focus for Bridgerton season 2, and not Daphne, is because the show follows the order Bridgerton book series. The second book, The Viscount who loved me, chronicles the love story of the eldest Bridgerton siblings and a woman named Kate Sheffield. While Kate Sheffield has been changed to Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) second season of the popular 1800s Regency era drama follows the same “enemies-to-lovers” that the books do. As the TV show follows the book series with relative accuracy (though some notable deviations), the focus of the second narrative shifts from Daphne to Anthony. That does not mean that Daphne is less important in Bridgerton ‘s broader knowledge, however, as she appears several times to help her family with their current scandal. But Bridgerton season 2 plays largely Daphne’s story as if away from the family home: she has her duties to her husband and he to his property, which means they can not always be present as they were in season 1.

Where Simon is in Bridgerton Season 2 (and what happens to him)

The audience was understandably confused when it was announced that Simon only exists outside the screen too Bridgerton season 2. After all, Rege Jean-Page was the breakout star in Bridgerton season 1 and his love story with Daphne was what lifted the show to its high status. However, the star only agreed to appear in one season, and his character appears briefly in the rest of the book series. This inevitably means that there are a few plot proposals to explain away his noticeable absence in Bridgerton season 2, but luckily he is not killed. The character was written off the show in a way that makes it clear that he is still in the background with Bridgerton season 2 explains that he is busy taking care of his family and his own affairs in general. He performs once or twice The Viscount who loved me book, but then Simon is only mentioned in the book series. Aside from a shocking return from Page, the same will be true Bridgerton TV appears as the series continues.

Daphne’s naivety about sex in Bridgerton was a significant obstacle for her and Simon to overcome, but her tendency to adore her parents’ marriage could mean trouble for the couple to move on. In an interview with TV Guidesaid Page he would like to see how Daphne and Simon’s relationship develops. “They get married very young. They still have a lot to grow. They have a lot to do and I think it will always be fun to see them do it together.” Bridgerton has already deviated from its source material (Bridgerton failed to correct the book’s biggest mistake), so anything is possible, but with so many Bridgerton siblings if stories have not yet been told, Daphne’s screen time is likely to be greatly reduced a second time.
