The government protects the son of the MoS; only BJP, his safe billionaire friends: Priyanka Gandhi
Congress Secretary-General Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday accused the BJP-led central government of protecting Union Minister Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish in the Lakhimpur Kheri case. Kicking off the 2022 UP party election campaign from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency in Varanasi, she said only BJP leaders and their “billionaire” friends are safe in the country.
Priyanka began her speech at the party rally in Kisan Nyay by invoking the goddess Durga. “I am fasting and I will begin my speech with Maa’s stuti (prayer),” she said. The Secretary General of Congress recited two shlokas in Sanskrit and urged people to chant “Jai Mata Di”.
Priyanka attacked the BJP on several fronts – from farmer unrest to inflation and unemployment – and urged people to usher in “parivartan (change)” in the state by replacing the government of Yogi Adityanath.
“In this country, only two groups of people are safe: the leaders of the BJP and their billionaire friends. No one belonging to any religion or caste is safe; neither the workers, nor the boatmen, the Dalits, the minorities, the poor, the women are safe. In this country, the Prime Minister, his ministers, those in power and all their billionaire friends are protected, ”Priyanka said.
Alleging that Ashish Mishra was protected by the BJP government, Priyanka said: “Last week, the son of Union (Interior) Minister of State Ajay Mishra mowed down farmers with his vehicle. The families of all the victims said they wanted justice … You must have seen how the government was busy protecting the minister and his son. While the administration was busy arresting opposition leaders, police were deployed to arrest me at night and put family members of the victims under house arrest. Not a single policeman went to catch the accused. Instead, he received an invitation from the police (for questioning) ”
“… And the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh (Yogi Adityanath) supports the minister from a public forum,” she added.
Questioning Prime Minister Modi for not going to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the families of the killed farmers, Priyanka Gandhi said: “The Prime Minister can visit all over the world… can go to America, Japan… but he cannot go to Delhi border to speak to farmers protesting against three new farm laws… Prime Minister came to Lucknow but was unable to travel two more hours to visit farmers’ families in Lakhimpur Kheri to wipe away their tears and hold their hands.
“All the families of the farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kheri said they had no hope of justice… If anyone is facing atrocities in this country, where would we go for justice if the government, the CM, the PM, the MoS Home, the deputies, all joined hands and turned their backs on the people, ”she asked.
She ended her speech with ‘Jai Mata Di’ and greeted the people of Navratri. At the start of the meeting, Priyanka, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and other congressional leaders chanted “Har har Mahadev”. It was followed by a reading of extracts from the Koran and the Gurbani.
