SC Collegium approves elevation of 7 lawyers as judges of Gujarat HC
The Supreme Court Panel said in a statement that during its September 29 meeting, it approved the proposed elevation of seven lawyers as high court judges in Gujarat.
The seven include two women – Mauna Bhatt and Nisha Thakore – in which the latter is currently the government’s deputy lawyer for Gujarat at the High Court, while Bhatt is currently a senior lawyer for the Gujarat Income Tax Department at the High Court. .
Other names proposed include Samir J Dave, Niral Rashmikant Mehta and Sandeep N Bhatt.
Meanwhile, Hemant M Prachchhak, who served as Deputy Government Litigator for Gujarat and was also appointed Central Government Advisor to the High Court of Gujarat by the Ministry of Justice in 2015 for a period of three years old, and attorney registered at Gujarat State Supreme Court Aniruddha P Mayee was also approved for elevation.
The Gujarat High Court currently has 25 judges of the sanctioned force of 52. Of the 52, 39 are permanent posts and 13 are additional posts. All additional posts as well as 14 permanent posts are currently vacant.
