Sasikala set to visit Jaya Memorial on October 16, the first since his release from prison

AIADMK’s expelled general secretary VK Sasikala is expected to visit the memorial to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on October 16, a day before the celebration of the golden jubilee of the founding of the AIADMK party. .

This will be Sasikala’s first visit to the memorial since she was released from Parappana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru after serving a four-year prison sentence in a disproportionate asset case.

According to reports, Sasikala is expected to pay floral tributes to the memorial to AIADMK leaders Jayalalithaa and MG Ramachandran, both former party presidents.

The visit would come a few days after the results of the local rural organization’s poll, which is expected to be announced on October 12. After winning losses in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 Assembly, AIADMK’s performance in these polls will be closely watched.

Political analysts believe that if the AIADMK suffers a further drop in the polls of local organizations, it will boost Sasikala’s confidence to project herself as the party’s only savior, and may even cause AIADMK cadres to rush to she.

In several leaked audio tapes of an alleged conversation between Sasikala and some party members over the past two months, the former AIADMK leader was heard to say that she had the responsibility of saving the party and restoring the reign of “Amma” (Jayalalithaa).

Before his visit, Sasikala reportedly told the ‘Namadhu MGR’ daily: “Whoever deeply loves Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, Puratchi Thalaivi Amma will not leave the party. I saw the anguish of the party executives, I can no longer be silent. After MGR disappeared, we stood by Amma’s side and saved the group. What happened after MGR disappeared has happened again, and therefore, I have to come back to the party and guide everyone in the right direction. My only wish and desire is to bring back Amma’s government. We must strive to achieve this.

The AIADMK is expected to celebrate the Golden Jubilee (2021-22) for a year and honor the “revolutionary leader” MGR, who founded the party in 1972 to defend justice and dislodge the “evil force” regime.

In a statement, AIADMK leaders Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Pannerselvam called on party officials to celebrate the historic Golden Jubilee with joy and organize events in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines. Sweets will be distributed to the public on foundation day (October 17).

The statues of MGR and Jayalalithaa are expected to be adorned with garlands and party flags will be hoisted in Tamil Nadu and other neighboring states where the party has an organizational presence.

When Sasikala returned to Chennai after being released from prison in February this year, there was speculation whether she would go directly to the Jayalalithaa memorial. However, at the time, the public works department had banned entry to the public citing ongoing construction work. This was widely viewed as a coup by the previous AIADMK government to prevent Sasikala from entering the memorial.

After her release, which came months before Tamil Nadu’s elections, Sasikala announced that she would retire from active politics. In a two-page statement, she said she never wished for any position or power, and called on the cadres to stand united and work hard to prevent the common enemy and the evil DMK force from gain power, and ensure Amma’s Golden Rule is implemented in the state.
