Pixar’s latest animated adventure Turning Red skips a theatrical release and will stream for free on Disney + in March amid growing COVID fears.
Pixar’s latest animated film Turns red skips cinemas and will stream for free on Disney +. Turns red follows a young girl named Mei who finds herself turning into a giant red panda every time she experiences heightened emotions. grey’s Anatomy‘s Sandra Oh will vote for Mei’s mother Ming, while Mei herself will be voted by Rosalie Chiang. Turns red is directed by Domee Shi, an animator who recently directed the acclaimed Pixar animated short film Bao.
Turns red will follow the release pattern from several other Pixar films since the pandemic began. In early 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, Pixar’s Forward, which had already been released in theaters, hit Disney + just weeks after its debut. Since then, Pixar’s two other releases have also hit Disney + at no extra cost. Soul was released on December 25, 2020 on the streaming platform, while Luca hit the streamer last summer. Turns red should be Pixar’s big return to cinemas, but that’s no longer in the cards.
Today, Disney announced it Turns red skips a movie release and goes straight to streaming. The film is coming to Disney + on March 11, the same day it was due to hit theaters. According to the study, Turns red will not benefit from the streamer’s Premier Access platform and will be available free of charge to all subscribers.
