One civilian killed, another injured in J&K shooting
Suspected militants shot at two civilians in separate incidents that took place within three hours on Saturday in the city of Srinagar. While one of the civilians was killed, another was seriously injured.
Majid Ahmad Gojri, a resident of Chattabal, was shot on Saturday evening by suspected militants near the Madina compound in Karan Nagar, police said. “Although the injured was immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries,” police said in a statement.
Police said they filed a complaint and opened an investigation. They said the area was immediately cordoned off to arrest the gunmen. But just two and a half hours later, suspected militants surfaced in Batamaloo, a few kilometers from Karan Nagar, and shot at another civilian.
Mohammad Shafi Dar was shot dead in the SD colony in Batamaloo, a police source said. He was injured and rushed to hospital where doctors said his condition was critical.
The city of Srinagar has seen a sudden increase in militant activity in recent months.
