Meerut Girl dies days after rape and assault (police)

A 16-year-old girl from Meerut district died on Friday afternoon, two days after she was assaulted and allegedly raped on her way home from school.

After the girl’s family protested at the local station, police said they had arrested a few suspects but had yet to arrest the main defendant. “Based on the CCTV footage available from his school to his home, we identified a few suspects who were arrested. We hope to arrest the accused soon, ”said Meerut Chief Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhakar Chaudhary.

Police said the girl was waiting for an electric rickshaw around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after showing up for an exam. But she never returned home. Her family searched for her but failed to locate her. At around 9 p.m., the girl was found unconscious in front of her house.

The girl told her mother that the rickshaw driver gave her a cold fortified drink, after which she felt dizzy, police said.
