India blocks Brazil’s victory in the WTO and retains sugar subsidies

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil today challenged India’s appeal for Brazil’s victory in the World Trade Organization sugar dispute (WTO). This case illustrates the damaging consequences of the US blockade of the WTO Appellate Body.

In practice, the Indians have made an “appeal in a vacuum” as there is no judge to deal with the case. They stopped the Brazilian victory and will continue to provide the subsidies considered illegal. . .
