Dussehra: 2,000 cops keep watch during festivities in Ludhiana, according to CP
At least 2,000 police will be on duty in the city on Friday during the Dussehra festivities, Ludhiana Police Commissioner said today.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the 2,000 staff would be deployed to various locations in the city and ensure law and order.
Bhullar said the effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbkaran will be burned at 23 locations under the jurisdiction of the Ludhiana City Police and that elaborate security arrangements have been made at all of these sites. He said an additional force from the Punjab Police Academy (PPA) Phillaur had also been deployed to the town.
During its visit on Thursday to parts of Sector 39 of Chandigarh Road, Daresi and other areas, the CP said the force was committed to upholding the law at all costs. He said the sole purpose of inspecting the arrangements was to make the security system more responsive and efficient.
He assured the population that a rock-solid security blanket had already been put in place in the city and that no one would be allowed to take the law into their hands.
Bhullar also held meetings with GO rank officials and asked them to provide round-the-clock patrols to all sensitive locations and locations in the city. He said police teams / PCR staff monitor and patrol around the clock in these areas which often experience heavy traffic.
