Delhi’s first integrated flyover-metro viaduct to rise near Soorghat
Delhi Metro and Public Works Department (PWD) will build New Delhi’s first integrated metro viaduct near Soorghat on the Phase IV Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor, a Delhi Metro Rail spokesperson said on Sunday. Corporation (DMRC). The metro bridge and viaduct will be parallel to each other. There will also be an underpass for vehicles.
The PWD flyover and vehicle underpass are part of a proposed elevated road along the Yamuna River parallel to the bypass between the Wazirabad flyover (Signature Bridge) and the bypass near DND.
Integrated portals will be erected on which an overflight and a viaduct will be placed. The metro viaduct will be built on one side of the gate and the PWD bridge on the other. The two will run parallel to each other for approximately 450 meters. No less than 21 gates will be erected with an average width of 26 meters and a height of 10 meters.
In addition to this, an underground passage will be constructed under the portal for the movement of vehicles from the outer ring road to the Signature Bridge. This underground passage will merge with the road on the other side of the Najafgarh drain.
The metro viaduct will be 10.5 meters wide and the three-lane bridge will be 10 meters wide. The flyby will take place alongside an existing flyby that is operational from Wazirabad to ISBT.
While the Delhi Metro will construct the metro gates and viaduct, the PWD will erect the bridge superstructure. The underpass will be built by the DMRC.
The work of the DMRC is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. “However, given the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, completion targets may be revised in the future. As part of phase 4, DMRC is already building two integrated two-story flyovers on which the metro viaduct and the road flyover will be superimposed. However, this particular section is unique, because here the flyover and the overpass of the metro will be parallel to each other, ”said the spokesperson for the DMRC.
The structure will be built on the Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor at Soorghat metro station. The corridor is 12,098 km long and includes eight stations. This extension of the pink line will complete the ring of the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor and will be the first ring corridor in the country with a length of about 70 km, added the spokesperson.
