Chaduni’s detention at the UP becomes a new flashpoint

Farmers’ unions have said they will block all highways in Haryana from 7 a.m. Tuesday in retaliation for the detention of BKU chief Gurnam Singh Chaduni by UP police.

Chaduni was on his way to Lakhimpur Kheri in UP on Monday when he was arrested by police in Meerut.
As word spread, farmers began blocking various state and state highways across Haryana from 6 p.m.

At 8 p.m., they began to gather outside the residences of BJP-JJP deputies across the state.

BKU Karnal President Jagdeep Singh Aulakh said: “We have already received reports of several highways, including from Karnal to Jind near the Jaisinghpura village of Karnal, blocked. We have also received reports of road blockages from the UP and Uttarakhand as well. “

He said farmers would block all highways in Haryana from 7 a.m. on Tuesday if Chaduni was not released by then.

In Karnal, a large number of farmers reached the residence of CM Manohar Lal Khattar and gheraoed it. An intensive police deployment has been put in place here to avoid any untoward incidents and disturbances of public order in the region.

Hisar-based farm leader Shamsher Nambardar told The Indian Express: “Farmers have started blocking free passage to all toll booths in various locations in Haryana to protest the detention of our leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni. We will also gherao the residences of all BJP-JJP deputies if our leader is not released. ”

Another leader farmer, Sumit Kumar, based in Rohtak, added: “We have blocked the section of the national road between Rohtak-Panipat near Makdoli and will not allow any movement of traffic until our leader Gurnam Singh is released.

Karnal IGP range Mamta Singh said: “We have deployed adequate security around CM’s residence in Karnal. Farmers have gathered here, but we are monitoring the situation closely. Regarding the deployment of farmers or the blockade on any other national or national road, I have no such information at the moment except the blocking of the Kaithal-Chandigarh road near Titram Mod. But, the state police are on high alert and whenever necessary, an adequate police deployment is carried out ”.

Representatives of farmers’ unions, however, reaffirmed that they would block several national and national highways overnight.
