Black Panther 2 is rumored to be setting up the Namor MCU Spinoff Franchise

A new rumor suggests that Namor & Atlantis will be part of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and that it will create a Namor spin-off movie in MCU.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever rumored to be creating yet another major franchise in the MCU, this time for Namors character. Black Panther is one of Marvel Studios’ most successful films, as it is the thirteenth most profitable film worldwide with $ 1.3 billion. It is also the only Marvel Studios film to have won an Oscar for Best Picture. Ryan Coogler returns to direct the long-awaited sequel, but has kept much of the film secret.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has had a very difficult production. The tragic death of star Chadwick Boseman in 2020 led to a complete rewrite of the script, forcing the film’s release date to be moved from May 6, 2022 to November 11, 2022. Marvel Studios took the decision not to rework T’Challa in Boseman’s honor, and many rumors have it that his sister Shuri took over the mantle as Black Panther. Star Letitia Wright, however, sustained damage to the set, and while filming around her as much as they could, production shut down for two months. Wright has since returned to the scene and the footage is set to begin with about a month of work with footage left on the film.

While plot details on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are few, is a widespread rumor that it will contain the character Namor the Submariner. According to BleedingCool, the sequel is rumored to contain Namor, his Namora and the Atlantic warlord Attuma and will feature a war between Wakanda and Atlantis. Namor’s presence in the film is akin to the Black Panthers inside Captain America: Civil War with the plan to spin Namor off for his own film.

Created by author and artist Bill Evert in 1939, Namor is one of the first superheroes of the golden age of comics and a main character for Marvel Comics, when it was then named Timely Comics. Stan Lee brought the character back to the sides of The Fantastic Four # 4 in 1962 and has since been a major player in the Marvel universe that rules Atlantis. He has often found himself as both an enemy and ally of The Fantastic Four, Black Panther, The X-Men, Doctor Doom and many others. Universal Pictures had the film rights to the character and both Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone‘s Chris Columbus and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machine‘s Jonathan Mostow was attached to the instruction. For years it was a matter of Marvel Studios had acquired the rights to the character back, or if Universal still held them, but if the rumor is true, it looks like the possibility of Universal should have lapsed.

Marvel Studios has laid the groundwork for Atlantis and Namor to perform at MCU for years. Iron Man 2 has a SHIELD logo on a map of the sea. Avengers: Endgame contained a reference to an underwater earthquake, and most recently the event of Eternal contained the celestial Tiamut that emerged from the Indian Ocean, which would probably have caused a greater disturbance to Atlantis. With The Fantastic Four set to join MCU, it looks like it’s the right time for Namor to make his debut on the big screen. The concept of having advanced civilizations like Atlantis and Wakanda fighting would certainly be a bold direction for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and could introduce the next breakout hero for MCU.
