Arceus Trailer confirms store and player customization

Pokémon Legends: Arceus has a new six-minute trailer showing gameplay for Pokédex, character customization and shops as well as great map views.

A new Japanese trailer has been released for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which provides a more detailed insight into future mechanics of the Hisui region. Much of the details around Pokémon Legends: Arceus has remained vague since the game was announced last year, leaving fans wondering what to expect from the groundbreaking new addition to Pokémon series. But with the release date just a few weeks away, more information is revealed, giving fans plenty to get excited about.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus will take players on a very different Pokémon journey than previous games in the main series. The modern settings and technical gadgets of titles like Sword and Shield has been swapped for a historic journey into the past in generation four’s Sinnoh region. Players will have a chance to help build the first Pokédex, throw proto-type Poké Balls, and travel the troubled landscapes of the Hisui region in search of Pokémon species. Although the official Pokédex lineup has not been revealed, a few species like Rowlet, the grass-type starter from Alola, point to a wider inclusion of Pokémon than one saw in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Another new Japanese trailer Pokémon Legends: Arceus, uploaded on Nintendo‘s YouTube channel, confirms a host of exciting gameplay mechanics. The trailer describes battles with powerful Pokémon, new images of areas within Hisui and information about the rudimentary Pokédex. New character customization options are also on display, confirming that players will be able to change their hair and accessories, as well as outfits, with a variety of styles to choose from. It also looks like there will be a number of shops selling craft items for sale, making access to essentials less of a potential hassle.

The trailer provides a better overview of what players can expect from the paper Pokédex they will fill out. It seems that like previous Pokédex models, info will be filled in when a Pokémon is seen, as well as when they are captured. There will also be more tabs for players to switch between, although it is not clear what the tabs will contain. It is possible that certain areas will have the potential to spawn Pokémon from other regions after players complete certain tasks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, similar to the National Pokédex unlocked in previous games. However, nothing has currently been confirmed by Nintendo.

Unfortunately, the one thing that does not seem to be ready in the new trailer is the function of the cards in open world style. It has been confirmed that the Hisui region will not be a truly open world, but there has been no official demonstration of how the explorable areas will be accessed. Hopefully further information will continue to be released as the launch date for Pokémon Legends: Arceus creeps closer. The game’s confirmed release date is set for January 28, 2022 and will be available for Nintendo Switch consoles.
