A new video appears: “The nephew of the ex-deputy was in one of the SUVs”
NEWSLETTER of the late former congressman Rajya Sabha Akhilesh Das was in one of three SUVs that allegedly crushed protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday, an eyewitness claimed in a new video released Wednesday.
Four farmers were killed in the incident.
Police are verifying the authenticity of the video. In the video, which is said to have been shot shortly after the incident, a police officer asks questions of an injured man.
The man claims to be in the same SUV as Ankit Das, a businessman from Lucknow and nephew of the former MP, who is said to be close to the family of Union Minister of State for the Interior Ajay Mishra .
After the deaths of farmers and four others in the violence that followed, an FIR was filed against the son of Union Minister Ashish Mishra.
In the video, the man, who had visible head injuries, claims he was in the second SUV – a Fortuner – with four other people, including Ankit. To a question from the policeman, he gives the Fortuner’s registration number and says that it belonged to Ankit.
He claims to be from the Charbagh area of Lucknow and to deal with Ankit’s accounts. He says he accompanied Ankit to Lakhimpur Kheri at work.
When questioned by a policeman about the Mahindra Thar, who was moving past the Fortuner and managed to escape from the place, the man denies all knowledge.
“Woh aage Thar sab ke upar tchaddate hue ja rahe le, hum peeche le (The Thar in front was crushing everyone and our vehicle was behind), ”he said.
When asked who was in the Thar, he replied: “Bhaiyya ke saath le, unko maloom (They were with bhaiyya, he knows that). He was allegedly referring to Ankit.
Ankit did not respond to calls from The Indian Express for its response to the claims made in the video.
Additional Director General of Law and Order Prashant Kumar said all videos related to the incident would be reviewed and then the investigator would make a decision on them.
A committee under the authority of the Additional Superintendent of Police has been formed to assist in the investigation of the two cases filed in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
